May 2025 working bee
Our next working bee is planned for Sunday 4th May from 10AM-12PM.
We will start work at a new site just slightly over the ridge from our recent planting area north of the old Maroondah Aqueduct Pipe bridge, closer to Hamish Court. Access is by foot via the laneways off Hamish Court or Warrool Court (Greensborough). Refer to the map if you are not familiar with the location. This area already has some established trees and shrubs planted by the group about 10-12 years ago. We will enhance the site by planting a higher diversity of small plants, filling in some of the gaps, and replacing plants that have reached the end of their life. One of our goals for this site is to improve the habitat for small woodland birds.
Activities will include planting, spreading mulch, rubbish removal, and plant propagation.
Please bring your own:
Drinking water
Gardening gloves
Sun protection
Sturdy footwear and clothing
Rain jacket (weather depending)
Tools and plants will be provided, but if you have a spare wheelbarrow and/or rake it would be very useful!

WaterWatch training (part 1 of 2)
WaterWatch is a citizen science project focused on water quality monitoring. Data collected through the program goes into the WaterWatch online database and is used by organisations such as Melbourne Water to inform waterway management actions. Parameters such as Temperature, Turbidity (muddiness), Dissolved Oxygen, Reactive Phosphate, pH, and Electrical Conductivity are important indicators of waterway health.
Our friends at Plenty River Rewilding Project are hosting WaterWatch training sessions that will be run in two parts:
Training part 1: Sat 17th May 2025, 10AM-12PM
Training part 2: Sat 25th May 2025, 2PM-4PM
The training will be near the old Maroondah Aqueduct Pipe Bridge in Greensborough, just near our recent planting area. Access is by foot via the laneways off Warrool Court or Hamish Court Greensborough. Refer to the map if you are not familiar with the location. There is access to the river at this location via the concrete steps.

Planting day
At this working bee we will continue planting and spreading mulch at the new site located to the north of the old aqueduct pipe bridge. The closest access point is via the laneway off Hamish Court, Greensborough. See map below if you are not yet familiar with the location.
We will also set up a propagation table where there will be the option of potting up some native seedlings to prepare them for future planting. This is a great activity for anyone who would like to learn more about plant propagation, and for people who would prefer not to be working on the slope which is quite steep in parts at this site.
All tools and plants will be provided. We usually finish the working bee with tea and coffee and scones or other sweets.
Please bring your own:
Gardening gloves
Sturdy footwear, and clothing that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty
Sun protection (hat, sunscreen etc.)
Rain jacket (weather depending)
Drinking water
Safety note: Please stay safe, wear appropriate PPE, look out for others, and work to your own ability and comfort. The main hazard at this site is the steep slope, so sturdy footwear is important. We always carry a first aid kit, and several members are trained in first aid.
